The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in the 53rd session of the Industrial Development Board (IDB) of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), held in the Austrian capital, Vienna. The delegation was led by His Excellency the Vice Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Industrial Affairs, Eng. Khalil bin Ibrahim bin Salamah, along with the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Khalid Tawla, and several senior officials from the industrial and mining sectors.
In his address to member states, Eng. bin Salamah reaffirmed the Kingdom’s continued commitment to building a competitive and sustainable industrial sector, leveraging its strategic location, natural resources, and advanced infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of strengthening international partnerships and fostering public-private cooperation to achieve sustainable industrial development.
The Board discussed strategic, programmatic, and financial issues, including the Director General’s Annual Report, the programme and budgets for 2026–2027, as well as cooperation with Africa, climate-neutral industry, the circular economy, and support for middle-income and least developed countries. Preparations for the 21st session of the UNIDO General Conference were also reviewed.
On the sidelines of the session, the Kingdom signed the agreement to host the 21st UNIDO General Conference, scheduled to take place in Riyadh from 23 to 27 November 2025. Additionally, the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources organized a promotional event highlighting the Kingdom’s preparations for the conference and its key programs to support industrial transformation and innovation.
